On the rock-rimmed fringe of Lake Buchanan lies 940 acres of lush estate. Canyon of the Eagles Resort leans into the nature around it, offering a tranquil waterside retreat. Named after American Bald Eagles, visitors are encouraged to explore like these grand birds – or kick back and relax. The Upper Highland lakes region of Texas Hill Country is all about being outdoors, and Canyon of the Eagles Resort is the perfect place to do it! Here are a few tips to plan your stay:
Which Room to Stay In
The bold and adventurous may opt for the RV and tent campsites, but if glamping is more your style then the resort guest rooms are a great compromise! 61 rooms are divvied up in shared cabin buildings to be either a standard single, standard double or deluxe room. You’re sure to have a great stay whichever option you choose, as the amenities are pretty consistent throughout the property!

Canyon of the Eagles rooms are outfitted with pine furnishings and stained cement floors that bring nature indoors, while large windows invite light. Enjoy the courtyard, lake or nature views from the queen-sized beds or take advantage of the porch seating where you can literally rock the night away. To keep the environment happy, sustainable linens and organic products are offered. To keep guests happy, private bathrooms, a micro-fridge and a Keurig are provided. Wi-Fi is available, but very limited so expect to unplug for a few days!
Where to Eat: Overlook Restaurant

The Overlook Restaurant is full of rustic charm, and a must even if you aren’t staying at the resort! Think stone pillars, wooden ceilings, and large floor-to-ceiling windows for spectacular views of the lake. Visual feast aside, you’re sure to be very well fed throughput the day. Breakfast ranges from a farm breakfast buffet to Mexican eats, while lunch and dinner are decidedly Texan with local seafood salads and some seriously delicious desserts. Grab a seat at the outdoor deck and thank me later. The lake views are phenomenal!
Things to do at the Resort
The river cruise is a must!
Surrounded by gorgeous limestone hills and native greenery, Canyon of the Eagles Resort offers plenty of nature-based activities to keep guests busy:
Nature trails and local hiking – 16 miles of trails lets you be one with nature, allowing you to walk, bike, sketch and photograph for hours. You may even spot endangered Black-capped Vireo, Warblers, and Eagles if you’re lucky!
Vanishing Texas River Cruise – These sightseeing tours take you past Fall Creek Falls and the towering cliffs of Colorado River. It’s the ultimate birdwatching cruise and photo op.
Kayaking – You’re on a lake, you may as well enjoy it! Especially during spring and summer when the heat is on. Cool off by getting out on the water, where you can get a great view of waterfalls.
Seventh Circuit Labyrinth –The park’s Seventh Circuit Labyrinth is registered with the World-Wide Labyrinth Society. The seven paths symbolize growth and transformation and is a great area to meditate.
Eagle Eye Observatory – End your day with stargazing at its best. Large telescopes bring Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and the stars right in front of your eyes.
